Mirjam Smeekes-Ottenhoff is a Dutch sculptor, specialized in bronze sculptures.
Sculpting wax is my favorite material to work with.
It gives me the opportunity to work either fast/ “sketching” or let it sit for a while to go back to it and make changes.
The wax allows me to sculpt in a very basic way: mostly with my bare hands, allowing for me to clearly demonstrate the emotion I have in mind. Often you can see that in my final results.
It gives my sculptures their unique expression and purity.

With rough “pencilstrokes” in wax, I reveal their expression and emotion. Hereby a feeling of the story behind them is created.
Are unique characters and communicate primarily with body language .
Through capturing their unique posture and expressions, I try to show their character.
